
Let’s talk about Carbon Fiber Infrared Heating
Ever notice how some heaters take forever to actually get warm? That’s usually because they’re using old-school metal coils. We do things differently. We use carbon fiber filaments to create far-infrared (FIR) radiation. Because carbon fiber doesn’t hold onto a ton of thermal mass, it hits its target temperature almost instantly. No more standing around waiting for your system to wake up. It’s fast. Really fast. How it actually works Basically, we run a current through a conductive carbon weave. This creates a broad spectrum of heat that sinks deep into whatever you’re heating—much deeper than those short-wave quartz lamps you might be used to. Whether you’re setting up a sauna or a drying station for a printer, it all comes down to heat density. We spend a lot of time calibrating the wattage so you get a steady flow of heat without burning out the surface. Just a heads-up: if you go for a high-wattage setup, make sure your power supply can handle that first big surge of current when you flip the switch. The build and the fit To keep things from oxidizing, we tuck the heating element inside a protective sleeve—usually quartz or a high-temp polymer. We’ve designed these to be simple drop-in replacements, so you don’t have to rebuild your whole array. One thing I love about carbon fiber is that it doesn’t sag when it gets hot, unlike nichrome wire. That means your heat stays even across the whole tube. And if you’re using these in a curing stage for a printer, you’ll find the temperature control is way tighter because the material reacts so quickly. Where to use it (and where to be careful) In a sauna, this is great because you get that deep tissue warmth without feeling like your skin is scorching. In a print shop, it dries inks and cures adhesives without melting your materials. But look, there are a few trade-offs. Carbon fiber is a bit fragile. It can’t take a beating or a lot of shaking, so make sure you mount them securely. If they vibrate too much, the filaments can snap. Also, keep in mind that while they’re efficient, they won’t hit the extreme temperature ceilings that halogen-filled tubes can. Just double-check your temp requirements before you start wiring everything up.
