Introduction
We built these carbon fiber infrared heat lamps for one reason: PET bottle blowing machines. Not just any heater. These are purpose-built. They pack serious heat into a small space, so you get fast, focused warmth exactly where the preform needs it.
What actually happens on the shop floor
PET preforms need heat fast—controlled, even, and quick. The goal is to stretch them without scorching. So we run these lamps at 2500W and 400V. That’s a lot of power through a relatively small tube—about 300mm long. The payoff? A tight, predictable hot zone that lines up perfectly with the heating station. It’s high energy, no question. You get instant response and high watt density. But here’s the reality: your machine’s cooling and ventilation have to be ready for the waste heat. If the area around the lamp gets too warm, the lamp runs hotter, and the reflector loses efficiency. Plan for airflow, and keep the lamp socket thermally isolated.
Built to take the heat
Inside, you’ve got a carbon fiber heating element tucked into a quartz tube. Quartz handles thermal shock well and keeps things stable when the temperature climbs. We also use an internal halogen gas fill. It helps keep output steady over the life of the lamp. And the R7s base? It’s the practical call. Solid two-point contact. It handles high current without extra brackets or adapters. Installation is a straight swap—line up the pins, seat the lamp, and you’re back to work.
Why this matters for PET blowing
On the line, the lamp heats the preform surface quickly. The carbon fiber IR output is tuned to penetrate the PET surface and drive heat inward. That means less surface burn and more consistent stretching. The 300mm length keeps the heat concentrated where the preform sits, so you don’t waste energy on nearby components. This setup is made for production. It can handle the thermal cycling of continuous blowing cycles. Still, it needs protection—keep it from impact and contamination. Keep the tube clean, and the heating stays stable shift after shift. You can count on consistent output for thousands of hours, and swapping lamps is simple thanks to the R7s footprint.
