Getting Your Paint to Cure Faster with R7s Carbon Fiber Lamps
If you’ve spent any time in a paint booth, you know the frustration of waiting around for coats to dry. We built these carbon fiber infrared lamps to fix that. Most people are used to standard halogen tubes, but these are different. We use a carbon fiber filament tucked inside quartz. The real magic here is how the heat moves. Instead of just baking the surface—which usually leads to “skinning” and those annoying solvent traps—this heat actually sinks deep. It dries the paint from the base coat up. It just works better.
The Power Stuff
Since these use an R7s base, you can usually just pop them right into your existing curing rigs. No fuss. We’ve dialed in the wattage to give you a really concentrated beam of heat that hits the panel the second you turn it on. But a quick heads-up: these lamps pull a lot of current. Make sure your wiring and power supply can actually handle the load. If your voltage drops, your curing time crawls, and nobody wants that.
What’s Under the Hood?
The heart of the lamp is that carbon fiber filament. It doesn’t get as scorching hot as tungsten, but it’s way more efficient at pushing out long-wave infrared radiation. To keep everything safe in a busy shop, we wrapped it in a hard-quartz envelope. It can take the heat cycles without flinching. And the install? It’s a breeze. You just slide the linear connector into the socket, lock it in, and you’re done. No soldering, no headache.
Real World Use
These are your go-to for spot-curing or drying out a full panel. They seriously cut down the dead time between coats, which means you get cars out of the booth and onto the road much faster. Just a tip: be careful with thin plastic trim. This heat is intense. If you hold the lamp too close for too long, you might warp something. Just keep an eye on your distance and timing. Also, if you’re running these 24/7 at full blast, the quartz will eventually get a bit cloudy. That’s normal. Once that happens, you’ll notice the heat output dipping, and that’s when it’s time for a fresh one.
